Khan Academy Response

After reviewing the Khan Academy it wasn't really what I envisioned. I thought it would be more fun or something that would catch a younger child's attention. I would have not used this during my younger years. I would need more interaction with a human being to receive a better understanding of what I was learning. I believe it is a good website to refer back to when they need the extra help outside of the classroom. That's the only thing I would recommend its use for the students. The videos weren't bad and speak to the children or students on a good level but they could be more descriptive to help the children understand better. I believe we will start to rely on the credentials of online courses, I don't agree that is the best thing for all students though. Students need to have that in class time to absorb the things the can't behind a computer screen. Taking online courses can be more convenient at times but for some students though they are willing to take that extra time to put in the time for in class because it helps them connect and learn better. Sometimes to some students words can be hard to process or understand what is being said so that's when I believe being in class can help students get that better understanding.

Creative Writing Lesson Plan

The lesson plan I chose I feel is the best because it is detailed and keeps children intrigued. It starts with asking questions to students about the topic they will be writing about. This helps open there mind and prepare there for their response paper.

Assistive Technology

When in a Creative Writing class you are usually given prompts. You can be given an assignment that tells you to write a response on what a piece of specific art may mean and the teacher can ask you to write 1-2 pages or they can have you write up to 5 pages. Some students don't know how to expand their minds with writing responses/essays. Students tend to repeat themselves in their writings when they don't know what else to say. I believe wordpress.com is something that can help students in Creative Wrting. Wordpress is an online blog that you can use publicly or personally. You don't always get free writes so wordpress can be where you can practice some of that to express your ideas in advance. Wordpress also allows you to view other blogs on other topics which can help students get an understanding of the best way to do continuous writing. Once students start to get ideas out on their blog they can start to feel more confident with their in class writing assignments.

Ohio DL Schools

Out of the five DL options I would choose the Connections Academy. I would choose this one for my child because of how much it offers students. What is offered at Connections Academy is that includes personalized/individualized attention and connections which is good for students who need the one on one or who just need more attention. Their technology is also easy to use which is very beneficial to those who are not use to more complex technology. There are online sessions every week to keep students up to date. Connections Academy also provide chances for in person gatherings/meetings for students who learn better in a classroom environment. Last but not least it does keep the socialization going for students because that is also important to one's daily intakes along with the important knowledge.


Out of the five DL options I would not choose ECOT. Although many have graduated from ECOT I feel it has less connections with the students. It is a type of schooling where you memorize the information, take your tests, and move on. How much are the students really learning and benefiting from that? There is less interactions with the students and doesn't provide as much for the students needs as Connections Academy. I feel ECOT is more strictly online and doesn't allow students much room to have access to other things to make them smarter and to learn more.

Creative Writing

My Prezi consists of creative writing. I want to teach creative to high schoolers. My Prezi follows with details on what I enjoy about my subject. Including details about what is important about the subject I want to be teaching.


Using Prezi was pretty easy for this assignment to help get my point across. The most challenging part was probably figuring out the best layout for the subject. Although that was challenging it was also the best part because you get to be creative and do it your own way but it can be a little consuming. It is so much more diverse than powerpoint. Powerpoint is straight to the point and you have less control and can't get as detailed. Prezi is definitely better for more detailed presentations and definitely catches the viewers attention.

My name is Shellie Armstrong and I am here to tell you a little bit about myself. My interests and hobbies consist of listening to music and being open to new kinds. I enjoy being outside and observing nature. I want to work with kids after college because I like being able to keep that child state of mind for the children. Writing is a hobby of mine along with reading. I can only write and read pieces that keep me intrigued and that I find interesting.

As I said before, I would like to work with children in the not so far future. Children make me feel like I can still have the personality as a child which I enjoy. Since children benefit me with my mind I would like to help with theirs as well. My goal is to help children learn while remaining in the child atmosphere. Children should remain to do as normally but while doing so also learning.
